When I saw the horrible photos of the Tsunami, this was not the Japan I remember. I had to do this instead. To the warm, wonderful, and quirky people of Japan, may the giggles stay with you.

Released out into the Spring...

I've held onto these for awhile. A lot of these were taken in Waialua, on the island of Oahu, and then some in Malibu. I've always loved the simplicity of a single flower, pod, root, etc. You can get lost in the intricacies, at least I do.

It reminds me of the Hawaiian saying "Take one look inside".
I love taking a look inside of nature.

It never gets old for me. I feel grounded.

Enjoy and Happy Spring!

I love the feel of warm turquoise water surrounding me.
I get that in Hawaii. That feeling I remember so well from childhood. Being immersed in warm turquoise water, all day long. Every summer night I'd climb into bed my toes and fingers a wrinkly mess, tired and sunburned from a day in the water.

I got it as a kid in my swimming pool. I'd spend hours and hours in that damn pool. My Mom would even bring my lunch down to the side of the pool where I would sit on the steps and eat my sandwich. She made me stay right there on the steps for a half an hour after I finished.....it was hell. I will never forget when my parents decided to put it in. It was rather unusual in those days to have such a huge pool in your backyard. We also had the first color TV in the neighborhood, my Dad owned a TV shop. Needless to say I was very popular on Sunset Ave. with all the other kids

Let me just add here that two important things come into play here. First I was the ONLY girl on the block. Second there was a Scottish family next door that had 5 boys, that I played with night and day. Those two things the TV and the pool gave me an unbelievable upper hand when negotiating anything with those boys. Their job was to always keep Deb outta this or that. No more was I lil' Deb, I had some power behind my words now. I used those 2 things as tools every summer.
....you wouldn't let me play spy, guess what YOU didn't go swimming.

Life is so simple with kids, isn't it. They use what they have to manipulate the situation. THAT one doesn't work, they search for another and pull out their magic bag filled with tricks, trying one after another until one clicks
.
Thanks to Jeffrey and David I have amazing stories to tell my grandkids when tucking them in to sleep at night. I had an idylic childhood, 2 parents that loved me to death and were supportive of my art. So the above is for my Dad who swam like Tarzan and I could watch him do his laps for hours...I will always love you Dad.
