Art schlepping....

I had this thought about ART always moving. Well, its true, it is a commodity isn't it? It is moved a LOT by the artist, schlepped here and there. Shown, taken down, moved to storage, taken back out, shown again, sold, delivered. Taken to the gallery, taken to the museum, taken to the auction house, the hotel and the restaurant. Sold again by the new owner......on and on it continues to move.

It's a lot like a car, there is value, it is being sold often, it gains and loses value, and sometimes it just a big accident!
Sometimes it sits in an attic or garage, rusting like a car.

Often times it's just simply cleaned and protected, babied, and valued like a classic '57 Chevy classic.

Art has a life all its own.

Here is the video that Weebly and Wayfarer Entertainment put together. I make a small cameo appearance. That's my blue hands holding the paint brushes. It was a wonderful experience one I am grateful for.
The people at Weebly and Wayfayer are just the BEST, young talented and conscious!

Happy Earthday 2014, love from Deb

Denim...salami.....and space ships

My house is a disaster and yet I sit here and create yummy goodness. Haaaaa, well I guess I really need a studio, but for some reason I like being near my crock pot of chicken verde bubbling, the sink right there to wash my brushes, I can walk the dog, take a breath, go to the fridge for a few thin slices of my beloved Thueringer salami. There's a lot to be said for painting at home, everything is right here. I guess if I were a big time painter with tons of big canvases I'd think differently, but for lil ol me and for what I do my space, my home is just right. It helps to be satisfied if you are wanting to get into the creative zone, it helps to be settled before you get into the spaceship and take off at mock ten...haaaaa

Everything works.

I do wish my supplies had more room to spread out, and I didn't have to move my pie tray of broken pastels to use the toaster...some how that craziness and chaos comes thru in my art though. What would it look like if I had little pots with pen colors separated lined up along a wall of pegboard? Notes and drawings easily accessed pinned to a board above my new white work station?

No, I don't think the chaos would come thru....I'd rather search a box of paper clippings knowing I had a pink turtle in there somewhere, and be ecstatic when I found it. Sure it takes me longer, but part of the fun is the search right...I knew it was there somewhere. When you have to search for things, you come across "other things"....and you know what "other things" do, they set your mind a swirling! Other things have a tendency to want it their way, they want to grab you, change your direction, and take you for a ride into the unknown of left field. I always jump on that train with the "other things", is that what creativity is.

Is that where creativity comes from.......an openness, a willingness, to go for a ride..... Yes, I'm thinking so.
