My inspiration? Sea glass, sea grasses, the piles of kelp on the beach, sand, current flows, sea urchins, water colorations, growth of all kinds, Broad Beach, Liquitex inks, the beastly weather, and the Great Barrier Reef.
O.K. So I am NOT going to cry....
My best buddy (besides my hubby) passed away last week. I can't believe that I cannot just pick up the phone and talk to him, why doesn't heaven have a phone? That's where he is, he believes this, so I will for now also. Charlie was one of a kind. The kind that you needed in your life. He would do anything for a friend. I called Charlie when Greg was in China and I sat crying with my Lulu dead in my lap, my favorite golden retriever. Charlie was here in 2 min. to rescue me . Charlie and I laughed together, way too much, all the time. He also talked me to death. When people say don't over analyze that,.... they got nothin' on Charlie! Charlie could talk for days on just about anything, We got into places mere mortals do not. Pitching a story idea at Spielbergs place Amblin, we met with Don Bluth (Secret of Nimh) in London, and I actually added something to their movie "All good dogs go to Heaven" Charlie was blown away that I raised my hand to speak in the screening room of the rough animated feature to suggest a change! It made him proud of me and he always laughed at that. We did toy fair in New York, I laughed so hard that I cried when he opened his suitcase and his wife Darlene had arranged his clothes into "outfits" Haaaaaa it makes me laugh right now. Then we took off for France I will never forget saying to Charlie, pack your bags we are going to Paris.....and picking up my American Express card and the phone, the look on Charlies face was priceless! When we got to the small hotel in the south of France we created a commotion with our snoring, but left that hotel with the owners hugging , kissing us goodbye like family members....everyone on the sidewalk waving as we drove off. Charlie and I were like that together, just magical. Charlie also infuriated me, I wanted to stab him and gouge his eyeballs out. He made me cry, he gave me migraines thinking, thinking, stewing about minute changes to a story or artwork, or treatment, or just discussing a concept......you could murder him easily. He wasn't always right, but he thought he was and fought to his death to make you see it. Bloody and bruised you would give in just to stop the madness, he would smile. then a charming sweet little boy smile. So many many ideas.....Duke, we tried Charlie we did our best...we have it our all. Charlie I will always miss you my friend. I trusted you with my life many times, from the rooftops of the Tijuana ghetto, to the tunnels in France, traffic in New York, or Sandy beach in Hawaii. I always knew you had my back. Take Care my friend....I love you! Deb ![]() Summers coming! I love summer at the beach. Not too hot, and the early morning fog creeps over the hills in Malibu, it looks like a Japanese water color. When I drive out to the valley I come back home it's sometimes 30 degrees difference. What a welcome home joy to return to. I love bar-b-ques, and long days at the beach. Sand dollars on Broad beach and walking in golden low tides. Sleeping on new cool sheets, or just get new cases to liven up your bedroom and bring the summer in. I'm a California girl, thats all. http://www.denydesigns.com/collections/deb-haugen-all-art |
