"All Eyes On Stella's New Hair"

This so made me laugh when I was little my older sister use to wear her hair like this, no not kidding! My Dad called her "basketball head", use to make her so mad.
I wonder if this style will ever be popular again? I hope not. It's so funny how one year eveyone will be wearing tight cigarette legged jeans and the style changes and 2 yrs. later you wouldn't be caught dead in them.

Personally I could care less. 5 years ago I found my white shorts at Target. For those of you that know me, know that the official costume of deb is a T-shirt and white shorts. Anyway I found my white shorts are Target and bought , I think, like 6 pairs of the same short. I'm always on the look-out for them again, so if you happen to see white shorts tie string waist, heavy Tshirt cotton, or even lightweight sweatshirt cotton please let me know....I'll take a dozen! http://Society6.com/DebHaugen

So I love new starts, new years, a fresh illustration board or a raw canvas. The posssibilities await.
I love the surprises that art , the act of creating, unfolds. I never know where or what I will end up with.
Well that's not exactly true, I always have a vision of something in mind, but with all the twists and turns I take in a piece of art, I am always surprised in the end.
It's really like Christmas in the end.

It so reminds me of this bud. You have no idea a lot of times what will unfold.

THAT is the wonder, that's why I paint, that's why I draw, that's why I create. I rely strictly on instinct. I cannot talk about why I put a mark here or there. After creating art for so long it is inside me. It is a feeling, an instict, a lesson from another life, a class on composition. Artists get to a place that is unexplainable, it's good to be there, and feels like home. It's comfortable, but always a challenge, there is always a puzzle there waiting for your instincts to come into play.

I'm so glad I am an artist, I don't know what else I would be....it's in my DNA.

 








Happy New Year Everyone!

It's a gorgeous day in Malibu.
This piece  is titled "Delores has a visit from the blu-bird of happiness" It's a collage that I did this morning that will set the tone for my new year. I cannot tell you how happy I am to be doing what I love.

Here are my resolutions for 2013....
Get to a doctor that will help my Hashimotos.
Wear sunblock
Try to do a vegetable drink everyday
Be kind to everyone
Not be too critical of my art
Accept the dramas with a little more ease ( only sweat the big stuff)
Do something creative EVERYDAY
Read a real book more often
Run more than half a block
Save money
Eat dinner before 6pm
Try to make a raised vegetable planting area that the gophers can't get into ( this coincides with a vegetable drink everyday)
Cut back on carbs
Go up the trail more often
Get Swef to walk down on Zuma with me
Get my collages out there!
